Christian Paradis Commits to Finding a Solution
Ottawa, April 7, 2009 – Christian Paradis, Member for Mégantic–L’Érable and Minister of Public Works, today responded to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s decision to stop funding the Mont-Mégantic Observatory.
“Like everyone in the region, I was angry and surprised to learn that the Council had cut funding to the Observatory,” said Mr. Paradis. “Although this decision was made by an independent agency and not the government, I will do everything I possibly can to find a solution.”
“I am working closely with community stakeholders and have asked my staff to make this issue a priority,” added Paradis.
The Mont Mégantic Observatory is the only university-level research observatory in eastern North America and the last one established in Canada.
