OTTAWA, February 25, 2009 – The Honourable Christian Paradis, P.C., MP for Mégantic—L’Érable and Minister of Public Works and Government Services, is asking people to help Quebec retain the coveted title of Kraft Hockeyville 2009.
The town of Thetford Mines beat out Acton Vale, which was also a finalist in Quebec, with more than 390,000 votes tallied. Thetford Mines thus made it in to the Top 5 of this popular contest and now continues the adventure in an effort to become the town to host a National Hockey League game and receive a prize of $100,000 for the local arena.
“Hockey is an integral part of our lives, our traditions. It is an activity that brings people together, that creates opportunity to meet people and share a common passion. Let us demonstrate our pride and encourage Thetford Mines in this great adventure,” the Minister said.
Voting to determine the grand winner begins at 11:00 pm on February 28. It will require a concentrated effort, because it is a very short voting period. People can vote by telephone or on-line until midnight on March 4.
“Let us pool our efforts to make sure Quebec keeps the title of Kraft Hockeyville,” Mr. Paradis concluded.
