The Minister reaffirms the Conservative government’s commitment to supply management

PLESSISVILLE – The Honourable Christian Paradis, Secretary of State (Agriculture) and federal Member of Parliament for Mégantic--L'Érable visited the Domain'Acquis Farm today in Plessisville-Paroisse as part of a Doors Open day. Mr. Paradis was welcomed by owner Jean-Pierre Bédard and other producers from the area.

Mr. Paradis applauded the efforts by Mr. Bédard and his wife to increase productivity on their farm. He also took the opportunity to reaffirm the support by Canada’s new government for supply management.

“I am pleased to see the results of the efforts and innovation by the second generation of the Bédard family on the family farm. I want you to know that Canada’s new government is with you and it supports supply management through concrete action,” declared Minister Paradis to the 50 or so producers who attended.“ The regulations on compositional standards for cheese, announced last June, are another good example of the concern being shown by Canada’s new government for ensuring that Canadian dairy products are of high quality.”

Mr. Bédard showed visitors his new facility, which has a robotic milking machine. This innovative system can milk over 70 cows automatically and can also detect certain illnesses.
