The Government of Canada Supports Centennial Celebrations of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur-de-Wolfestown

SAINT-JACQUES-LE-MAJEUR (QUEBEC), February 15, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L'Érable), today announced financial support for the 100th Anniversary Committee of the Municipality of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur. This funding will allow committee members and 65 volunteers to organize festivities over the space of seven months to celebrate the municipality's centennial.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the 100th anniversary of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur," said Minister Moore. "We are proud to partner with communities to support activities that promote local arts and heritage and strengthen the local economy."

It is important that all Canadians be aware of their origins and of our country's rich heritage," said Minister Paradis. "The 100th anniversary of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur will be a source of pride for everyone in our community."

"The 100th Anniversary Committee of St-Jacques-le-Majeur is very pleased to receive this funding from Canadian Heritage. Thanks to this support, the Committee will be able to go ahead with the celebrations planned as part of this exceptional year!" said Hélène Laplante, Committee Coordinator.

The Government of Canada has provided this funding of $9,600 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to participate in activities that showcase local arts and culture and celebrate the history and heritage of a region.
