OTTAWA – The Hon. Christian Paradis, MP for Mégantic—L’Érable and Secretary of State for Agriculture, is pleased to announce that Lawrence Cannon, Stephen Harper's Quebec lieutenant, will be in the area on December 20, 2007.

Mr. Cannon has accepted the Secretary of State’s invitation to visit the Thetford Mines area to discuss local issues that fall under his jurisdiction as Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

In addition to being the guest speaker at a dinner organized by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de l’Amiante at the Thetford Mines Golf Club, Mr. Cannon, accompanied by Christian Paradis, will visit industry representatives and will meet with municipal officials and other stakeholders.

I am thrilled that a senior government official has made an effort to come see and understand what is happening here. Although several Opposition members have visited recently, constituents will finally have an opportunity to speak to an influential decision-maker in the Conservative government, a government of action,” said Christian Paradis.
